Welcome to the memorial page for

David J "Szafranski" Saxan

October 6, 1943 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 74) 74 Years Old

David J. Saxan, age 74, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2017 in Flower Hospital. He will now rest in peace and be reunited with his lovely wife Marion.

David was born on October 6, 1943 in Hamtramck, MI to the late Angeline and Joseph Szafranski. He had a degree from UT in Business and Nursing Home Administration. David served in the Air National Guard of Ohio and the Reserve of the United States Air Force. In his younger years he enjoyed snowmobiling, bowling, golf and having a great mentor, Frank Unkle. He was a previous owner of the Roadhouse Inn on Reynolds Road for over 20 years, also worked at Carranor Hunt and Polo Club for 17 years and was a manager at many other Country Clubs in the Toledo area.

David was a very loving, compassionate and caring man. There was nothing he wouldn't do for anyone and he asked nothing in return. He was a wonderful caregiver for his brother Bill. Strong in his faith, he loved being a Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns and a volunteer Eucharistic Minister at Hospice on Detroit Avenue.

He was a classic car enthusiast and a longtime member of the Michigan Lincoln Continental Owners Club. He held various board positions and was a national judge for the LCOC. Dave was very proud of earning many awards for his 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car Sedan. He was also a member of the Ohio Valley LCOC.

He was known for his "crazy" pants and being such a funny guy. David was a dog lover and had many dogs, especially his precious dog "Ginger"; he spoke Polish to her and she understood. He loved the "Oldies" music and you could always count on him remembering the past years of the 50's, 60's, 70s and the cars people drove. He was a great cook, especially his "bean" soup and was so much fun to be with playing cards and fishing on the "Polish Princess".

David was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; aunt, Irene Szumigala Young and uncle, Butch Jakubik.

Cherishing his memory are brother, Bill Heine; special cousin, Carollee Unkle and her family; many cousins in Michigan; great friends and longtime friend, Janice (Michalak) Konoff.

Visitation will be held at the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road on Sunday November 12 from 3 to 8 p.m. where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Funeral services will begin Monday November 13 at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home and continue with the Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick of Heatherdowns at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Toledo Humane Society or St. Patrick of Heatherdowns. The family wishes to thank Janice Konoff for all her love, caregiving and compassion to our David.

God saw you getting tired when a cure was not to be. So he closed his arms around you and whispered "come to me, I am taking you home". You didn't deserve what you went through, so he gave you rest. God's garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best. When he saw you sleeping, so peaceful...free from pain, we could not wish you back to suffer that again.
