Mary Jane Morris Obituary

Mary Jane Morris, RN

Mary Jane Morris of Toledo passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17 at home on Catawba Island surrounded by her family after a nearly ten month battle with glioblastoma. Mary Jane was born September 27, 1948 to Mary (Abdow) and George Beshara in Cleveland, OH. She graduated from The Ohio State University School of Nursing in 1971 where she received her BSN degree. She began her 45 year nursing career at University Hospital in Columbus. In March of 1973, she married Steven Morris and moved to Toledo, where she worked in the Intensive Care Unit of Toledo Hospital until moving to the TTH School of Nursing and taught for the final three years of the school. Following the closure of the School of Nursing in 1988, she began a nearly 30 year career in vascular nursing, first with Toledo Vascular Institute (TVI) and then with the Jobst Vascular Institute as a Clinical Affiliate. She retired at the end of 2014, only to be rehired a month later for another 18 months. Mary Jane loved her work and touched many lives over the years.

Two children were born from their union, Ryan in 1976 and Kelly in 1979. Mary Jane was active at school functions and followed Ryan in his hockey travels and Kelly in her dance. Both children graduated from Ohio State and Mary Jane enjoyed attending fraternity and sorority functions and especially enjoyed tailgating and going to Buckeye football games. One of her highlights of OSU football was attending the 2015 Sugar Bowl win in New Orleans.

Mary Jane loved gardening, golfing with her nursing buddies, Detroit Red Wing hockey and boating and fishing on Lake Erie, but none of it compared to her love of family. She was happiest when she was with her children and grandchildren, whether it was going to their games, dance, playing hockey with the grandkids on the kitchen floor or just being with them. She loved hosting family and friends at their Catawba Island condo and taking day and overnight trips to the islands.

Mary Jane also enjoyed traveling with Steven to northern Michigan for his work (where she always managed to find a casino), vacationing in northern Michigan in the spring, Hilton Head each fall and Naples, FL throughout the year to visit family.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband, Steven, of nearly 45 years; her son, Ryan (Heidi) Morris of Toledo; daughter, Kelly Morris of Columbus; grandchildren, Grant, Benjamin and Mia Morris and Joey Jarabek; her father, George (Pat) Beshara of Naples, FL; sisters, Linda (Ken) Meyer of Naples, FL. and Georgia Hauser of Columbus, OH; brother, Charles (Linda) Beshara of Medina, OH; and sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Brian Davie of Bonita Springs, FL.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Beshara; and her in-laws, Floyd (Butch) and Ginny Morris.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, OH on Friday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a luncheon at the clubhouse at LeMarin on Catawba Island. A celebration of Mary Jane's life will be held the following day, April 21, at the Stone Oak Country Club from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital  in Mary Jane's name. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Hickman Cancer Center and OSU Brain and Spine Hospital and the staffs at Flower Rehab and Great Lakes Caring for their care, support and comfort during her battle.
