Sister M. Maurice Wodarski, OSF

1935-2018

Sister M. Maurice Wodarski died on January 6, 2018, at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio. Sister Maurice, the daughter of Ollie and Hattie Wodarski, entered the convent from Nativity Parish in Toledo, Ohio, in 1951. She made her first profession of religious vows in 1954 and her final vows in 1957.

Sister Maurice's 63 years of ministry began with teaching in elementary schools in Ohio, Michigan, Minnesota and Maryland. For 35 years she taught in grades from second to eighth and especially enjoyed teaching math. In her spare time she did everything from helping other teachers decorate their bulletin boards, to helping with cleaning in church and teaching altar boys how to serve Mass. Parishioners and pastors alike remember Sister Maurice for her whirlwind energy and willingness to do just about everything and anything that needed to be done for parish and school events.

After teaching for so many years, Sister Maurice began the ministry of care for the elder Sisters at Rosary Hall, went back to teaching for a few more years, and then trained as a home health aide and helped the elderly in their homes for 21 years. In her later years, Sister became involved in a ministry of service to Veterans in the Toledo area. She volunteered at the Toledo Community Outpatient Clinic on South Detroit Avenue. She was named the March Volunteer of the Month in the VA's 2014 newsletter. She also served as Chaplain for the Przybylski Post 642, Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary 639, and was a State Officer of the Ohio Chaplains. In 2007 she received the St. Agnes Medal from the National Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary, the highest national honor bestowed upon a CWVA member. She was also proud of her Polish heritage and attended many activities associated with local Polish parishes.

Sister Maurice will be missed by her Sisters in community along with many family members and friends, especially her Veteran associates. There will be a Welcoming Service for Sister Maurice in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6:00PM on Thursday, January 11, 2018, followed by visitation until 8:00PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, January 12, 2018 beginning at 9:00AM until the funeral liturgy at 4:00PM. The Catholic War Veterans, Logsdon Walla, Post 639 will gather for a Rosary at 3:00PM on Friday, also at Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel.

Interment will be at Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
