Obituary

We regretfully announce the death of Sofa Miloslavskaya (1930) of Toledo, Ohio, who passed away surrounded by her loved ones on February 25, 2023.

Sofa, born in Kiev, Ukraine during World War II, had a difficult life. Orphaned at a young age, she sought refuge and was transferred to Uzbekistan to build a new one.

There she worked as a bookkeeper for a television repair shop. In 1961 she married Yuriy Zaurov and in 1962 had a son.

In 1993, her family as well as her son's family came to the United States as refugees.

The families landed in Toledo, Ohio and made a home amongst many other refugees from the former USSR.

Sofa was known as the caretaker of Pelham Manor, often making dishes to share and crocheting items for her friends and those who lived in the building.

She will be forever loved and remembered not only by her family members but also by many friends and acquaintances.

Sofa is survived by her son, Gregory Zaurov, his wife Irina, and grandchildren Artem and Jennifer.

Private services will be held at Beth Shalom Cemetery on Monday, February 27 at 1:00 p.m.
