Celia Jane Ettinger Kahn
Surrounded by family, Celia Jane Ettinger Kahn, 92, passed away peacefully and with dignity on June 14, 2018, in Sylvania. From 1986 to 2011, Celia lived her retirement dream in what she, and her husband Jim, called "Paradise," Sarasota, FL. After more than 63 years of marriage, Jim preceded her in death on March 7, 2011. Celia was a terrific mother and is survived by her three children: Kathee (Robert) Berns, Kerry (Roy) Abram and Kent (Diane) Kahn.
"Grandma Cel" is survived by six grandchildren: Julie Berns, Daniel (Allison) Berns, Jaime (Dana) Collins, Lindsay (Bill) Kahn-Vargo, Chad Abram and Kyle Abram; and five great-grandchildren: Brayden and Taryn Winegardner, Rafi and Estie Berns and Kaylee Vargo. Celia was an avid golfer, ardent golf fan and was fortunate enough to have traveled the world. She had deep roots and a love for Joplin, MO, where she was born on June 12, 1926. Whether living in Joplin, Houston, Cleveland, Youngstown or Sarasota, Celia and Jim were heavily involved in their temple, including Temple Emanuel-El in Sarasota.
Services will be private. The family will receive friends at the home of Kathee and Bob Berns on Sunday, June 17 and Monday, June 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Toledo. Arrangements by the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home, (419) 535-5840.
