Jerry J. Silverblatt, age 92, passed away Monday, November 27, 2017 at Kingston Health Center in Sylvania, OH. Mr. Silverblatt was born on August 23, 1925, in Detroit, MI. Jerry graduated from the Western Military Academy in Alton, IL in 1943. In 1945, he was assigned to the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg, Germany. At the age of 20 he was one of 16 administrative officers hand selected to serve as a guard at the Nuremberg trials. It was there that he witnessed the first of its kind, the trials of crimes against humanity. His account of his time at the trials is documented at the Smithsonian Institute. Upon returning from the armed services, Jerry worked in his father’s jewelry store, The Berry Co., before taking it over in the early 1960s. It was there he worked for over 30 years before ending his career as an executive at ShellerGlobe for several years before retirement. Jerry was very passionate and accomplished at the game of golf that he enjoyed for many years. He was very proud of his three hole in ones that he achieved. He (Papa) was most proud of his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Frieda Silverblatt; his beloved wife of 39 years, Shirley Kaufman Silverblatt who died in 1998; his twin daughters, Tina and Gina and his sister, Barbara Levinson. Surviving is his daughter, Lynn Hager, Bend, Oregon; and stepchildren, Denise (Larry) Rothschild, Newton, MA and Brad (Jan) Dolgin. Also surviving are grandchildren, Joshua (Gina) Dolgin, Rebecca (Charles) Levine, Daniel (Carole) Dolgin, Liza Rothschild and Zach Rothschild. Services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Oregon, OH. The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at the home of Brad and Jan Dolgin. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.
