Leonard Newman, 90, of Sylvania, passed away at Ebeid Hospice on Friday, January 5, 2018. Leonard was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 9, 1927, to Ben and Sophie Newman. He worked at The Toledo Blade as a type-setter for over forty years. Leonard enjoyed being around people and spent much of his free time visiting others and volunteering where needed. He loved calling numbers at BINGO at the Darlington House and Pelham Manor. He was known for his jovial attitude and had the biggest and most giving heart according to his granddaughters. He was an active member of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II, and following discharge, a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a member of The Old Newsboys, VFW Post 6909, the Friendly Visitors of Jewish Family Service, and Congregation Etz Chayim.

Leonard is survived by loving daughter Cheryl (Robert) Berkowitz, granddaughters Marla Moskowitz and Vicki (Andrew) Arkow and four great-granddaughters, Ruthie and Yael Moskowitz and Isabella and Olivia Arkow, as well as sister-in-law Marilyn Kutcher and nephews Steven (Beth) Kutcher, Jeffery (Hanna) Kutcher and David (Barbara) Newman. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy Newman, to whom he was married for over 50 years, as well as brothers Alex and Louis Newman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, at 10:00 a.m., at Robert H Wick /Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road. Interment will be in Beth Shalom Cemetery.

The family will receive guests beginning on Monday, January 8, through Thursday, January 11 at the home of Robert and Cheryl Berkowitz.
