Sister M. Lenore Eagles, OSF
1919-2018
Sister M. Lenore Eagles died on July 5, 2018 at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, OH. She was the daughter of Casper (Casimir) and Sophie Eagles who were faithful parishioners of the former Nativity Parish in Toledo, OH. Sister Lenore and her twin sister, Sister M. Alicia, entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1935 and professed their vows in 1940. Sister Lenore earned a B.A., B.S.E. and M.A. degree from the former Mary Manse College in Toledo. She taught in elementary schools in Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio for 42 years full time and was a substitute teacher for ten years.
Sister Lenore and her twin sister cared for their mother and sister, Mary, in the family home for ten years and after the Mother's death, they continued to care for Mary until they were no longer able to do so. In 2008 they moved to Rosary Care Center and Mary moved to the Franciscan Care Center where they visited her as often as possible until her death. Sister Alicia died in 2016. Sister Lenore continued her prayer ministry at Rosary Care Center until her death after almost 78 years in religious life. She will be dearly missed by her Sisters in community, her family and friends and her caregivers at Rosary Care Center.
There will be Welcoming Service for Sister Lenore in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis in Sylvania at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018. Visitation will continue on Saturday, July 14, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel. Interment will be in Porta Coeli Cemetery on the campus of the Sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
