Andrew Samuel Wisniewski Obituary

Andrew Samuel Wisniewski, 90, of Sylvania, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 30, 2022. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, brother, and uncle. Andrew "Andy" was born to Sam and Anna Wisniewski (nee Kroma) on December 24, 1931, in Templeton, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Kittanning High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army as a tank mechanic. After serving in the Army, he moved to Toledo to be near family. In 1955, he met the love of his life, Irene Szymanski. They were married in 1959 and together raised five daughters. He worked for the City of Toledo for over 30 years.

He is survived by his daughters, Michelle O'Shea (Brian), Shawn Hofert (Bill), Tamara Stoma (Dave), Kimberly Waniewski (Carl), and Melissa Granata (Mark); his 9 grandchildren, Nicole, Kristen, Amanda, Andrew, Gregory, Alexandra, Samuel, Jonathon, and Caitlin; and his great-grandchildren, Tommy and Hayden. Andrew was preceded in death by his loving wife, Irene; his parents; and his siblings, Alexander Wisniewski, Mary Echler, and Paul Wisniewski. Andy loved his garden. His family has many fond memories of him tending to his roses and picking berries with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his many flowers, he had a sizable vegetable garden and loved to share his tomatoes, peppers and other vegetables with his family.

Andy enjoyed woodworking and used to make wooden birds and tulips that he would decorate the yard with. Many of his family members have his creations and they are warm reminders of his love for the outdoors.

He and Irene loved spending summers with their family at their cabin at Big Star Lake in Baldwin, Michigan. Andy also loved baking pies and his rhubarb pie and apple pie were always on the menu at family holidays. He was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of St. Hedwig Church, in Toledo, and later St. Joseph in Sylvania.

Family and friends may visit and share their memories on Wednesday, May 4, from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Thomas I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road. His funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sylvania on Thursday, May 5, at 11 a.m., where family and friends may gather beginning at 10:15 a.m. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Toledo.

God saw that you were getting tired, And a cure was not to be, So he put his arms around you, And whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, And saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, We could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, Hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best. Ja cie kocham, Grandpa. We love and miss you.
