Barbara “Barbie” Roth Treuhaft, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away on May 17 at the age of 95. Barbie was never one to miss a party, and she was able to celebrate her 95th birthday with family, friends, and the staff at Sunset House.
Barbie was born on May 10, 1931, to Ferdinand and Hilda Roth. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jack Treuhaft.
Barbie will be remembered for the warmth and outgoing spirit that defined her life. She had a rare gift for making people feel welcome wherever she went. Social, engaging, kind, and genuinely interested in others, Barbie never met a person she did not like — and few people ever met Barbie without feeling better for it.
Together, Barbie and Jack built a beautiful life centered on family, friendship, community, and the water. Barbie loved boating, and the couple’s many boats were fittingly named TreuLove, a perfect reflection of their marriage and the joy they found together. They were members of North Cape Yacht Club, where Jack served as Commodore, and Barbie was an enthusiastic part of the club community.
Throughout her life, Barbie gave generously of her time and energy. She was involved with the Quest Garden Club, serving as president for many years. She also volunteered at the shopping cart at Toledo Hospital. Barbie and Jack were longtime supporters of the Toledo Museum of Art, the Toledo Symphony, WGTE, and the Toledo Zoo. She was a lifetime member of Temple Shomer Emunim.
Barbie loved knitting and baking, two interests that reflected her patience, creativity, and love of sharing with others. Over the years, she made many sweaters, hats, and scarves for family and friends, each one a personal expression of her care and thoughtfulness. Barbie was also known for her famous cookies, lovingly known as “Joe E. Browns.” Her schnecken and caramels were also treasured family favorites.
Family was always at the center of Barbie’s life. Barbie worked occasionally at Roth Furs, but her main focus was supporting her family and husband in their many endeavors. She is survived by her children, Brenda Treuhaft; Janet Treuhaft and her husband, John Conlisk; and Fred Treuhaft and his wife, Julie. She was a loving grandmother to Katie Zdrada and her husband, Brian, and Jay Treuhaft and his wife, Melissa. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Matthew and Drew Zdrada and Max and Elliot Treuhaft. Barbie was preceded in death by her grandson, Ross Treuhaft, whose memory remained a deeply meaningful part of her family’s life.
Barbie is also survived by her brother, Phil Roth, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Blackstone, Herbert Roth, and Judy Roth.
The family extends a warm thank you to everyone at Sunset House in Ottawa Hills for their close friendships and care over the past few years.
