Ben Pansky, PhD, MD
Ben Pansky, PhD, MD, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018 in The Toledo Hospital while being treated for a number of medical challenges. He was born February 18, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI. He went on to obtain his Bachelor's, Master's and PhD degrees from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he met the love of his life, Julie, to whom he was married for over fifty years.
Ben began his medical career as an associate professor at New York Medical College. He then continued as a Professor of Anatomy with the first class of the Medical College of Ohio, now the UT College of Medicine and Life Sciences, in 1970. In addition to teaching, research and clinical work, he has written and illustrated numerous medical books, many of which have been and are being translated into multiple languages. Upon retiring, he became a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Surgery. He was a true Renaissance Man, Scientist, teacher and technician, world renowned author and artist and illustrator. He leaves behind a legacy of students who have gone on to enrich their own careers in medicine and the basic sciences. A wonderfully loving husband, father, brother and humanitarian. The world is less bright without him, but much better for having had him in it. Among his numerous memberships, Ben was a longtime member of the Congregation Temple Shomer Emunim in Sylvania.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Julie and parents Abraham and Leah Pansky. Survivng are his loving son Jon, sister Esther Kahn and brother Louis Pansky.
Friends will be received on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 North Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615, where the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to the charity of the donor's choice.
