Carolyn M. (Merce) Zietsma

Carolyn M. Zietsma, age 87, of Chardon, OH and formerly of Toledo, OH, passed away on June 27, 2023, at Ohman Family Living at Briar, Middlefield, OH, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born October 19, 1935, in Toledo, OH, to Paul and Geneva (Snyder) Merce. Carolyn was a graduate of Burnham High School, class of 1953. She was employed as a church secretary at Providence Lutheran Church, Holland, OH. for many years. Carolyn was an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, Toledo, OH, taking communion to shut-ins, serving on many committees and was a Luther League Advisor to the church youth. She retired from Providence Lutheran Church in 2003 after 36 years.

Carolyn was a loving and supportive sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. Her home was the place of many large family gatherings. She loved to travel, especially to Myrtle Beach with her girlfriends in her later years. She loved to golf and also won many bowling tournaments.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 30 years, Merlin; and her brother, William Merce. She is survived by her children, Jean (Jim) Lehman, Laura (Jamie) Russell, Mark (Ruth) Zietsma and Elaine (Mark) Zakrzewski; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lou Ann Barclay and Linda (Sam) Gomer.

The family would like to thank all of the caregivers at The Residence of Chardon, Ohman Family Living at Briar and Blossom and University Hospital at Geauga for the wonderful, loving care they gave to Carolyn over the past 3 years.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the Thos. I. Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH. 43615. The funeral service will be held on Friday July 7, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 915 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, OH 43615, where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m that morning. Interment Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may go to the Kempfer Memorial Scholarship Fund at Epiphany Lutheran Church.
