Chester B. Strawinski, age 85, of Toledo passed away Friday January 11, 2019 at Flower Hospital. He was born in Torrington, CT on October 6, 1933 to Chester D. and Sophia (Solywoda) Strawinski. In the 1950s, Chet owned Chet's Hot Dog Restaurant in Rossford and on Monroe Street near Swayne Field in Toledo. He went on to become an insurance agent for over 30 years with American General Life and eventually retired from Western Southern Life.
In Chet's 25 year career with American General, he won the prestigious "Top Hat" award 22 of those years and travelled the world. He loved spending time with his family and sharing his passion for cooking and his famous hot dog sauce. He also loved his dogs, camping, and winters in Florida. He was a people-person who was outgoing, feisty, always smiling, and he never met a stranger.
Surviving are his wife Carol A. (Binkley); and step-daughters, Amy Netter and Lisa (Joel) Over; his children with his former wife, Waverly Strawinski: Sandra Schodowski, Brenda Ceparski, Chester J. (Robyn) Strawinski, Theresa (David) Kujawa, Rachelle (David) Johnston and Lorrie (Aaron) Kajtaniak; sister P. Anne Steele, 18 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brother Joseph and sons-in-law Lawrence Schodowski and Francis Ceparski.
The family will receive friends on Thursday January 17 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Thos. I. Wisniewski Funeral Home 2426 North Reynolds Rd. (419-531-4424). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday January 18 at 11:00 a.m. in Little Flower Catholic Church 5522 Dorr St. Toledo, OH where the family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private on Saturday at Fountain Grove Cemetery, Bryan, Ohio.
