Doris “Tiny” Romanco, of Toledo, Ohio, unexpectedly but peacefully passed surrounded by family, into the Lord’s hands on 9/20/24. She was 90 years old.
Born to Pearl and Andy Elekonich on 2/6/34, she was one of four children. She was the only daughter amongst her brothers Andy, Michael, and Paul. She later attended Whitney Vocational School, where she mastered the arts of sewing and tailoring. This was truly her passion and an integral part of the rest of her life. She began work as an expert tailor for various retailers in the Toledo area before opening her own business The Nimble Thimble.
She later expanded into the bridal business with her second venture Anya’s Bridal Salon. She continued to tailor for private clients even after “retiring” and was still taking occasional projects, staying active until she passed.
In her late teens, she met and later married Ralph Romanco Sr. Over the years, they welcomed five children-four daughters and a son. Their home was a thriving place, always full of neighborhood friends that became family. There truly were no strangers in their eyes, and their table was always big enough for an extra place setting in “the full house.”
Doris was especially fond of dancing, enjoying an active social life that revolved around different opportunities to boogie. She was always two things: a little hungry and probably chilly. She could often be found spending time with her many loved ones, sitting with a heaping plate and sipping on a warm beverage. She loved walking at Wildwood Metro Park, visiting daily for her exercise.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, and husband Ralph. She is survived by her children Deborah (Mark), Tana (Joe), Butch (Pam), Jodi (Ron), and Holly (Mike); 14 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren; her dearest niece Joan Suchomma, neighbor and dear friend Nancy Gossling, and many other special friends and family members, for whom we are truly grateful.
A private service will be take place for immediate family on Tuesday, September 24. An extended “Tuesday with Tiny” celebration will be held for friends and extended family on Sunday, September 29, at the Ward Pavillion at Wildwood Metropark, from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of NW Ohio or the American Heart Association.
