Dr. David Grossman, 75, of Bradenton, FL, formerly from Toledo, OH, passed away January 30, 2025 in Lakewood Ranch. He was born May 6,1949 in Youngstown, OH. David will be remembered for many things, including his quick, wry wit, his caring and loving attention to his patients during his many years as a practicing Internal Medicine Physician and Infectious Disease Specialist in Toledo, and his many public roles in the health field in Toledo and Lucas County, OH. He graduated from Miami University (Ohio) and from the second class of Medical College of Ohio (MCO) in Toledo, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in Infectious Diseases, and was Board Certified. Dr. Grossman also served as an Associate Professor at MCO (where he received rewards for teaching medical students and residents) and as Health Commissioner of Toledo-Lucas County Health Department. As Health Commissioner he was instrumental in eliminating public smoking in the State of Ohio and shutting off the water supply from Lake Erie during a red algae bloom. David is survived by his brothers Reuven (Patrae) Grossman of Portland, OR and Kurt (Joanne) Grossman of Cincinnati, his daughter Jessica (Josh) Eliscu and his son Jacob both of Chicago, his grandchildren Zoe and Eli Eliscu, his loving companion and dear friend Dawn Weideman, and many cousins, nephews, a niece and other extended family. He was predeceased by his sister Lori (Mike) Sobul.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 11:00AM at Congregation B’nai Israel, 6525 Sylvania Ave, Sylvania, OH 43560, followed by interment at Beth Shalom Cemetery, 420 Otter Creek, Oregon, OH 43616. Shiva meal and visitation will take place back at Congregation B’nai Israel at approximately 2:00PM.
