Edythe Jaffee, 95, passed away at home surrounded by family on November 7, 2023. Edy was a trailblazer - she successfully navigated professional and business careers, motherhood, and community service when such occurrences were rare. Married to her beloved husband, Budd, for 62 years, she partnered with him to start and operate Budd Jewelers, a Point Place institution. Edythe graduated summa cum laude from the University of Toledo College of Pharmacy in 1950. She was proud to be a pharmacist. She excelled in her profession, which was dominated by men at the time. Edy worked for 58 years as a leader and clinical pharmacist, in retail, hospital and home care pharmacies. She enjoyed mentoring young pharmacists and students.
Edythe made time to give back as a volunteer for many organizations including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, her children's schools, professional and business organizations. Known as "Mom" by many, Edythe welcomed all into her home. There was always hot coffee for anyone who happened to stop by, and plenty of food if you happened to stop by at mealtime. Her holiday dinners were legendary, often attended by over 40 people.
Surviving are her children, Alan (Laura Leventhal), Deb (Pat) Saine, Tom (Sara), Len (Cathy), and Sandy Stein. She was blessed to be Mommom/Grandma to 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 9, 1 p.m., at Beth Shalom Cemetery in Oregon, OH. Friends are invited to visit the family at Len's home immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Edythe R. Jaffee Memorial Pharmacy Fund at The University of Toledo: tol-edo.org/ejaffee or by sending a check made payable to the UT Foundation at 4510 Dorr Street, MS 820, Toledo, Ohio 43615, or charity of the donor's choice.
