Eleanore M. Darmofal, 92, of west Toledo, passed away on December 24, 2020. She was born May 16, 1928, in Toledo, the second of eight children of Vincent and Nellie Darmofal. She grew up in the old Polish neighborhood, graduating from St. Adalbert's Grade School. The family moved to nearby Michigan, where she graduated from the old Lambertville High School. She had many fond memories from her school days. Her first job while in high school was working as a waitress at Michigan Tavern, then downtown at the Commodore Perry Hotel. Taking courses to advance herself, she worked 35 years for Champion Spark Plug Corp., retiring in 1990 as a Supervisor in the Sales Department.
Eleanore loved to volunteer including many years with the LPGA Jamie Farr, PBS Channel 30, Mercy/St. Ann's Hospital, Sunset House Auxiliary, and others. She also enjoyed being a member of the Toledo Opera Guild, Champion Retirees, and many other organizations. She enjoyed sports, participating in golfing and bowling until she was in her mid-80's. World traveling, was another interest, she was in Cuba just after the revolution, other trips with her friends she went to Spain, Canary Islands, Netherlands, Yugoslavia, Brazil, the USA. Until COVID-19 hit, she loved her casino trips including Vegas, Windsor, and Toledo.
She loved her family and was the Matriarch of the Toledo Darmofal Families affectionately being known as "Aunt Eleanore". She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Raymond, and Leo (Emma Lou); brothers-in-law, George Townsend and David Gerl. She is survived by her sisters, Terry Townsend, Stella Gerl; brothers, Edward (Rosalie), Robert (Susan), Joseph (Fran) Darmofal; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Sunday, January 3, 2021, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Thos. I Wisniewski Funeral Home, 2426 N. Reynolds Road, where prayers will be said at 4 p.m. Mass for Christian burial will be on Monday, January 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 1:00 p.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church (4100 Harvest Lane). Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Facial covering and social distancing are required at all events. Memorial donations can be made to PBS Channel 30, the Toledo Opera Guild, or to the charity of the donor's choice.
