Fred Zarecky, 82, passed away peacefully at Hospice of NW Ohio Tuesday, March 18 with his loving family by his side.
Fred was a graduate of Rossford High School and received an Associate Degree from UT in Industrial Engineering. He joined the Marine Corps Reserves and served for 6 years, and remained a proud Marine throughout his life.
In 1967, he met a young lady on a bus trip with family to Montreal, Canada. Then on September 21,1968 he married his “first wife” and love of his life, Theresa (Dumit) and they began a journey of love and devotion that spanned over 56 years.
Fred worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford for over 40 years, starting as a draftsman and retiring as an Advanced Furnace Engineer. He spent his free time and retirement enjoying fishing on Lake Erie, hunting for arrowheads along its shore, traveling, cruising, and camping with family, and playing euchre. He rarely missed a musical, sporting event, performance, or ceremony if it involved his grandchildren, always proud of them!
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Irene (Stvartak) Zarecky. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Theresa, his children, Jennifer (Todd) Newhouse and Michael (Angel) Zarecky, his grandchildren, Samantha, Douglas, Matthew, Kayla, Skylar, Tony, and Desiree, and his great-grandson Princeton, along with his siblings Dan (Mary) Zarecky, Elizabeth (Peter) Ujvagi, and Phyllis (Robert) Fagaly.
The Funeral Mass will be on Monday, March 24 at 11:00 am at Little Flower Catholic Church with a viewing immediately preceding in the narthex at 10:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.
One of his favorite sayings was “I’ll rest when I’m dead.” Your job here is done, dad. Rest in peace.
