John "Jack" Thomas McQuillen, Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at home on April 30, 2022, after 10 years with Alzheimer's. Jack was born September 11, 1937 in Toledo to John T. McQuillen, Sr. and Thelma (McVicker) McQuillen. He grew up in St. Agnes parish and graduated from Central Catholic in 1955. He was the first of the McQuillen family to graduate from college, earning his degree in electrical engineering from Toledo University in 1960. He also played tennis for the university.
He married Mary Ann Pauly on May 21, 1960, and they were together for almost 62 years. After marriage, they settled in Endicott, NY, where he worked with IBM and the family grew as they welcomed four of their nine children. He returned to Toledo in 1965. They settled in Little Flower Parish where he remained until his passing. He held jobs with Teledyne, Dundee Cement, and retired from Holcim in the late '90s.
As a father raising children, he was dedicated to CYO athletics and coached both basketball and baseball. He always enjoyed watching his children play sports and often would join in. In 1995 he was awarded the 'Mary Kurucz Veteran Coach Award' for his contribution and service to the CYO basketball program.
After retirement, he volunteered with Claver House, the American Red Cross, and Toledo Metroparks. He continued to enjoy sports and took up golfing where he got two hole-in-ones. And of course, he enjoyed his grandchildren whether it was visiting them in their own homes or babysitting them in his home.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann; and nine children, John B. (Tammy), Mary (Tim) Roshak, Pat (Judy), Maureen (Jim) Bishop, Tim (Kim), Rev. Tom, Molly (Jeff) Rose, Amy (Mike) Goulding, Dan (Eva); 44 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn (Don) Schwiebold of Vista, CA; and brother, Roland (Gabrielle) of Dublin, Ireland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma; and his brother, Dan and Dan's wife Noreen.
