June K. (Klein) Treuhaft Obituary

Hermine "June" Treuhaft, 91, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. We are grateful to Dr. Susan Federman and the staffs at Flower Hospital and Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their compassionate care.

June was born on August 13, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, and was raised in Mansfield, Ohio, by her parents, Nettie and Elmer Klein. In 1952, she left Central Ohio to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. After a roof collapse at the bank where she worked, she returned to Ohio and continued her studies at The Ohio State University. While in Columbus, her sorority sister, Joanie Siegel, introduced her to her future husband, David Katz's roommate, Bill Treuhaft. June remained in Columbus to pursue her degree while Bill completed his ROTC commitment in Washington, D.C. After his active-duty service, June and Bill married, moved to Toledo, and she completed her degree in Education at the University of Toledo.

June taught full-time for one year at Whitmer High School before the birth of her children, and later spent several years as a substitute teacher. During Israel's Six-Day War in 1967, she became increasingly active in the Jewish Welfare Federation, ultimately serving as Chairwoman of the Women's Drive in the early 1970s. She later served as Volunteer Coordinator for the Toledo Museum of Art's El Greco Exhibition and as a Coordinator for the MS Foundation. June concluded her long career in public service as the Volunteer Coordinator at Crosby Gardens, where she served for more than 20 years before retiring in the early 2000s.

Having grown up in a small, Jewish community, June cherished the vibrant Jewish life in Toledo. She treasured her close relationship with Judge David and Joanie Katz and their family, along with many dear friends. She inherited her mother's gift for entertaining and loved cooking and baking for any-or no-occasion, especially for family gatherings and holidays. Nothing delighted her more than an impromptu gathering of loved ones, where she could surround (and feed) the people she cared for most.

June is survived by her daughter, Beth; her son, Joel (Linda), and his son, Landen; many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly; and countless special friends.
