Kathleen Marie Hamilton Obituary


Kathleen M. Hamilton, age 69, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away August 19, 2022, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio surrounded by her loving family and friends. Kathy was born August 16, 1953, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to Eileen (Pasco) and Robert Hamilton. Kathy graduated from St. Clairsville High School in 1971 and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a degree in health and physical education. She was also a part of the Women's Basketball team at Bowling Green and was honored in 2005 by the university as one of many who played varsity sports before Title IX was official. Kathy also completed her master's degree in guidance and counseling at Bowling Green State University.

Her educational career took her to many locations around the state. She taught in Cuyahoga Falls, at Hiland High School in Berlin, Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon and Oak Harbor Elementary. She served as a Guidance Counselor at Oak Harbor Junior High, Central Catholic. Tiffin Calvert and Tiffin City schools. Kathy also served as Assistant to the Principal at Central Catholic High School in Toledo and then moved into the Principal position.

Kathy was a coach for most of her educational career. She was head girls' basketball coach at Hiland and Cardinal Stritch High Schools. She also served as Athletic Director her final year at Cardinal Stritch. At Oak Harbor she coached junior high basketball and was the Assistant Varsity coach, started the girls' softball program and coached girls' golf. At Genoa High School, she was the girls' Junior Varsity coach. While serving as head Girls Varsity basketball coach at Danbury Lakeside, she was awarded coach of the year by the league.

Kathy's faith was a major part of her life, and she became an Associate of the Sylvania Franciscans in 2015. She also is remembered with great love by numerous friends, including the Sylvania Franciscan Sisters, Employees of the Sisters where she worked till 2019, and staff of Rosary Care Center.

She is survived by her brothers, Ralph (Ellen) and Robert (Cristina) Hamilton; her sister, Dianne (James) Humienny; her nephews, Jeff and Michael Humienny and Mark and David Hamilton; niece, Stacey (Humienny) Windsor; and her great- niece, Lillian Windsor.

Kathy's funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 29th, at 11:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Chapel, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania, Ohio. Celebrant will be the Rev. David Nuss and interment will be immediately following the funeral at Resurrection Cemetery.

Kathy was a member of the Sophia Center Board for a number of years and spearheaded the annual golf outing that benefitted the Charity Care fund for those children and their families who were uninsured. Donations in Kathy's memory can be made to Sophia Center, 6832 Convent Blvd., Sylvania Ohio 43560 for that Charity Care fund.
