Mark Edward Friedman passed away peacefully at his home on September 28, 2026. Mark was born January 23, 1952, in Rochester, New York, to Arthur and Marcia Friedman. He and his younger brother, Richard, spent their youth there before relocating to Toledo, Ohio, during Mark’s freshman year of high school. In Toledo, Mark attended DeVilbiss High School, where he played football. He attended The Ohio State University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity before transferring to the University of Toledo, where he graduated with two bachelor’s degrees in psychology and pharmacology. Mark began his career as a pharmacist and eventually retired after forty years in the profession.
Mark married Anna Nash-Friedman, and they had two children, Adam in 1983 and Lindsay in 1986. He loved traveling with his family to many cities and taking them to museums, sporting events, parks, and concerts. Mark later became a grandfather to Hendrix, 8, and Thadlee, 6. He savored every moment he could spend with them, taking them to school, watching them in sports and performances, and spoiling them with abundant love.
A man of devout Jewish faith, Mark was a congregant of Temple Shomer Emunim as well as Congregation B’Nai Israel. He took great pride in his Jewish faith and culture and could be counted on as a consistent minyan participant during the week and on Shabbat. A benefactor to many charities and causes, his philanthropy centered on helping those in need and supporting matters of humanitarian importance.
He was a loving and devoted son, brother, father, husband, friend, partner, and grandfather. Mark was selfless, charitable, and full of quirky humor. He was the epitome of a mensch. Mark made a profound impact in his lifetime and mattered to so many people. His family and friends will miss him dearly while holding fond memories of a man who brought tremendous joy to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marcia Friedman, and his brother, Richard. Mark is survived by his children, Adam and Lindsay (Blaine) Kuneman; former spouse, Anna; grandchildren, Hendrix and Thadlee; significant partner, Cindy Kasperek; nephew, Shawn Friedman (Cynthia); and numerous cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in the Temple Shomer Emunim 6453 W. Sylvania Ave. Sylvania, OH. 43560. Interment will follow in Beth Shalom Cemetery, Oregon, Ohio.
