Mary D. (French) Hudak died on March 9, 2022, at Swanton Valley Healthcare. Mary was born on January 18, 1939, to Clarence and Alberta (VanOss) French in Toledo, Ohio. She married Stephen Louis Hudak in October of 1959. Mary was the caregiver of her siblings starting at age 12 following the death of their mother. At age 19, Mary became the family's guardian. Whatever Mary did, it was always for family, siblings and her children. If someone needed help, it was Mary who would be there.
Mary began working at age 16 at St. Vincent's Hospital to help support her family. From there she was employed by Elmer C. Rost, M.D. for twenty-nine years as a medical assistant and later as a LPN. She enjoyed meeting and helping to care for the many patients of Dr. Rost. Mary entered college at age 44, graduating with a Business degree at age 50 and went on to earn a nursing home license. She became an administrator at Sunbridge-Sylvania. She later retired from Bedford Elderly Care Center. After retirement, Mary volunteered at Little Flower Catholic Church, St Vincent dePaul and the Finance Committee as well as a Eucharistic Minister and she assisted Reverend Joseph Steinbauer with funerals.
Surviving Mary are her cherished children, Kathryn (David) Rakay and Stephen "Mike" Hudak; her granddaughter, Stephanie Rakay; her sisters, Jacqlyn (David) Burns, of Goodlettsville, TN, Magdelyn (Leo, deceased) Imbery, of Aurora, IL and Shelley Osborn (Cliff) of Sylvania, OH; and brother, Paul (Noreen, deceased) French of Perrysburg, OH. She also had many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen; parents, Clarence and Alberta French; and brother, Phillip French.
Family and friends are invited to Little Flower Catholic Church on Monday, March 21, 2022, for the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10:30 a.m. that morning. Private interment will follow the memorial service at Resurrection Cemetery.
