Maxine Callif

Maxine "Max" Callif, age 87, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, August 18th while a Resident
at Hyland Hills Dial Senior Living in Westminster, Colorado.
She was born in NY on June 28, 1939 to George and Ida Sherman. Maxine was a graduate of
Scott High School and married the love of her life, Burton (Burt) Callif on
August 25, 1957 at B'nai Jacob.
 
Maxine retired from Pre-School Director at the JCC Pre-School of Toledo, Ohio after 33
years.  She was then approached by The University of Toledo's Education Department and was
hired to teach classes to future Teachers.  
 
While working at the JCC, she also worked with Burt with Callif's Catering for years,
supplying delicious food to Toledo's Jewish community.  Maxine would do the Baking and
Burt would do the cooking. He was a long-time member of Temple Shomer Emunim. She loved
reading, playing Maj, UT Women's Basketball, and cuddling with Burt! They made
wonderful memories on the many cruises they experienced, especially the one to Alaska.
 
Maxine was a great wife, a hard-working mother and a doting grandma and great-grandma. 
She and Burt were fantastic parents and grandparents!
 
She is survived by: her brother Barry (Joey) Sherman; sons, Lester Frank Callif and
Robert Allen Callif; daughter, Jeannie; grandchildren, Daniel Callif, Matt (Chelsey)
Callif, Jamey (Brie) Callif, Corey (Whitney) Callif and Bradley (Kristi Lynne) Callif;
great-grandchildren, Ava, Luci, Gio, Sophia, Luke & Violet, Graham, Scottie, Ali, Axton;
dear cousins, nieces and nephews – too many to count - and a host of dear friends.
She was preceded in death by Burt (her 1 and only) after having been married for almost
64 years.
 
Graveside service will be Sunday, August 23, 2026 at noon in Beth Shalom Cemetery, Oregon,
Ohio.

Colorado).  They were amazing in how loving and caring they were for Maxine.
