Dr. Michael A. Gordon, 74, passed away Friday October 3rd at the Toledo Hospital. He was raised in Roslyn, New York and graduated from Roslyn High School. Michael attended the University of Michigan and became an avid Wolverine sports fan. There he joined Theta Xi fraternity and maintained many lifelong friendships with the brothers.
After college, Mike went to Medical School at Creighton University, completed an Internal Medicine residency at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis and a Rheumatology fellowship at Michigan. In 1982, he began practicing Rheumatology in Toledo and helped establish Arthritis Associates of Northwest Ohio. He was respected and liked by so many of his patients.
In his spare time Mike and his wife Cathy enjoyed bird watching and took numerous trips around the country and the world in search of birds. Mike loved running, competed in a number of races and completed two marathons. He liked golf and was a longtime member of Sylvania Country Club. During his retirement Michael developed a passion for bridge and loved to play. He was a member of Temple Shomer Emunim and supporter of the Jewish Federation.
Survived by his loving wife of 50 years Catherine (Skilliter) Gordon, son Rabbi Andrew Gordon (Brian ten Siethoff), daughter Rebecca Sandler (Scott), grandchildren Caleb Gordon, Ryan Sandler and Jared Sandler. He is also survived by his father Robert Gordon, brothers Jonathan Gordon (Susan) and Daniel Gordon (Roberta) and several nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his mother Elaine (Selden) Gordon.
The funeral service will be on Sunday October 5, 2025, at 11:30am at Temple Shomer Emunim, 6453 W. Sylvania, OH 43560, followed by internment at Woodlawn Cemetery.
