Michael Joseph "Joe" Pickett Obituary

With deep love and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Joseph “Joe” Pickett on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, after a seven-month battle with lung cancer. He was 76 years old.

Born on April 21, 1949, in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, Joe was the beloved husband of Ann Pickett (née Huggins) and devoted father to Thomas Pickett & Erinn Moore (Braden & Neeve), Deirdre & Major Jeremy Dobos (Aeden, Declan, Anya, Liam & Ronan), Dr. Michael Pickett & Billy Mann and Patrick & Nicole Pickett (Landon, Collin & Finn). He was a cherished brother to Don, Ted, Bob, Paul, Tim, Bernie, Gord and John. He was predeceased by his siblings Dave and Mary Anne Hepburn. He was also a dear friend to Dr. Louis O’Connell.

Joe was a gentle, caring and generous man whose life was rooted in faith, family and service to others. He served as Chief Financial Officer at Hirzel Canning Company in Northwood, Ohio for over 20 years, retiring in 2017. A faithful member of St. John XXIII Catholic Parish in Perrysburg, Ohio, he dedicated his time and talents as a volunteer, helping to strengthen and serve his community.

In his youth, Joe excelled in football, hockey and baseball. He was also an exceptional track and field athlete. He remained a lifelong supporter of the Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays and the Toledo Mud Hens. His greatest joy, however, came from time spent with his grandchildren—affectionately known as his “Bears.” Whether watching his grandchildren’s sports, BBQing together, or babysitting them, he treasured each moment with them.

Joe’s warmth, humility and steadfast love will be dearly missed by his family and friends. His kindness and quiet strength leave a legacy that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 3:00–7:00 p.m. at  the Thos. I. Wisniewski  Funeral Home, 2426 N Reynolds Rd, Toledo, OH 43615.
