Rachelle Horowitz Obituary
Rachelle "Chelle" Constance Horowitz, 84, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026.
Chelle was born on December 9, 1941, along with her twin sister, Jane, to Maurice Forschirm and Naomi Bloch Forschirm. After her mother, Naomi, passed away when Chelle and Jane were very young, the sisters were raised by their mother's best friend and sister-in-law, Janet Adelson, and her husband, Irving Adelson, who later adopted both girls as their own.
Chelle attended Richmond Hill High School in Richmond Hill, New York, before going on to Michigan State University, where she majored in Home Economics with a focus in Retail. She remained a loyal Spartan her whole life. She began her career as a buyer in New York. In March 1965, she married Irwin Horowitz and relocated to Toledo, Ohio, where she devoted herself to raising her two children. She later returned to her retail roots, building a long career in customer service, including serving as head of customer service for the downtown Toledo Macy's department store until its closing.
Chelle was active in her community, volunteering at various times with ORT, Planned Parenthood, and the Toledo Museum of Art. She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, devoted cat parent, and friend, cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Todd Horowitz and Ilisa Horowitz Heyman; daughter-in-law, Laura Adams; son-in-law, Leigh Heyman; grandchild, Evalyn Heyman; sister, Jane Rosenbloom; and niece, Sarah Taylor.
