Robert Alan Baron Obituary

Robert Alan Baron, born August 3, 1939, passed away October 19, 2021. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Bob attended Fulton School and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School where he was chosen for the prestigious Davenport Award for his leadership, character and scholarship. He was an Eagle Scout and a first-string football player at Ottawa Hills where he also lettered in baseball. Bob graduated from The Ohio State University where he served Woody Hayes as manager for the Ohio State University football team. His loyalty to OSU never diminished and he would often stop people on the street if they were wearing an OSU hat. Or, if it was a Michigan hat, it would be a conversation, but a different one. After graduation from OSU Bob worked for his father Jerry Baron at Baron Drawn Steel Company in Toledo until he moved to NYC where he became a successful investment advisor. He formed a steel brokerage company when he and his family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He and 2 partners purchased T-Shirt City, a regional activewear distributor and successfully sold it so he could move on to corporate board work, including OPKO Health, and also philanthropy. Bob was a lifelong athlete, running 6 marathons including the Boston Marathon twice, and he was a founder of The Flying Pig Marathon. In Cincinnati, Bob was active in the community serving on the boards of The Boy Scouts of America, Springer School, the College Conservatory of Music, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion and The Jewish Federation of Cincinnati. He was Chair of the Federation annual fund campaign, raising millions for social services in Cincinnati and around the world. He also chaired HUC-JIR annual dinners twice. Bob was an advisor to the Patty Brisben Foundation. Bob and his beloved wife of 51 years, Jessica, loved to travel the world, often with their children and they shared a passion for twentieth Century art.

Bob was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Baron; mother, Lily Katz Baron; stepmother, Marion Baron; brothers, James Baron and William Baron; and sister, Judith LaVallee. He is survived by his wife, Jessica; children, Jonathan Baron (Spring Li), and Laura (Ian) Londin; and grandchildren, Jeremy Baron, Charley Baron, Nathaniel Londin and Jonah Londin. He is also survived by brothers, Richard (Naomi) Baron, Samuel (Leslie) Balber, and Paul Balber; and sisters, Sara Jane (Jim) Klein and Margaret Tomasic.

The funeral will take place at The Temple at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 22. Friends and family will be received after the funeral at the Temple, 6453 Sylvania Ave. Sylvania, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Luther Home of Mercy, Williston, Ohio or Doctors Without Borders or the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements by the Robert H.
