Shirley M. Gerber, age 98, of Ottawa Hills, passed away Friday, May 26, 2023, at Otterbein Sunset Village of Sylvania. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 1, 1924, to Alex and Anna (Phillips) Zimbler. Affectionately known as "Bubbie", Shirley was a 1946 graduate of the University of Michigan. She had worked for many years as a bacteriologist at the former Maumee Valley Hospital and subsequently was the office manager for her husband, Dr. Jerome Gerber's medical practice.
A very active member of the Congregation B'Nai Israel, Shirley enjoyed in her later years the many activities organized by the Senior Group of Jewish Family Services. She also remained active with the University of Toledo Women's Investment Club and continued her love of travel which included numerous trips to Las Vegas.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dr. Jerome Gerber; daughter, Gail H. Cousino; and her two siblings.
Surviving are her children, Jeff (Evi) Gerber and Felice Wolff; son-in-law Ronald Cousino, Jr.: grandchildren, Marna (Dustin) Berlekamp, Allison (Chris) Fiscus, Joel Gerber and Greg (Jess) Wolff; eight great grandchildren also survive.
Services and interment will be held on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Beth Shalom Cemetery, Oregon, OH. Memorial donations are suggested to the Congregation B'Nai Israel, Sylvania, OH.
