Sister M. Lorena Dulas Obituary

Sister M. Lorena Dulas died on July 27, 2026, at Mercy St. Anne Hospital in Toledo, Ohio. The daughter of Henry and Catherine Dulas, she came to Sylvania, Ohio, in 1953 to become a Sister of St. Francis after graduating from St. Casimir School in Wells, Minnesota. She made her first profession of religious vows in 1959 and her final profession in 1962.

During the time of her formation to become a Sylvania Franciscan, Sister Lorena also prepared to be a teacher. She earned B.A. and B.S.E. degrees from Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio, and later an M.A. in Education from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota. She taught for 26 years in various elementary schools in Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota. In 1984, she came to the Motherhouse in Sylvania, where she served in a variety of ministries, including the print shop, reception, transportation, hospitality, housing, and housekeeping. She left the campus for brief periods to serve as Receptionist and Coordinator at Vianney Center in Steubenville, Ohio; Hospitality Coordinator for Good Counsel Education Center in Mankato, Minnesota; and later returned to Sylvania to serve as Assistant Bookstore Manager at Lourdes College. For the past several years, Sister Lorena resided in Our Lady of Grace Hall, an assisted living facility for the Sisters, where she continued to enjoy life through praying, sharing stories with the other Sisters, attending activities at Rosary Care Center-especially BINGO, and working on jigsaw puzzles.

Sister Lorena, as she grew in wisdom and grace, shared a warm, loving personality even as she valued her time alone with God. On the occasion of her 50th Jubilee in religious life, she wrote, "This time in my life is a more reflective time. I've learned to let go of things through the years and don't take myself quite so seriously anymore. 'This too shall pass,' is a statement that gets me through the tough times in life. It is comforting to know that '…in Him we live and move and have our being.' I am grateful for these 50 years on the journey." Sister Lorena went on to enjoy nearly 67 years on the journey.

Sister Lorena will be missed by her Sisters and caregivers, especially those at Our Lady of Grace. She came from a family of 14 children. She was preceded in death by six siblings: Billy, Henry Jr., Kenny, Lorena, Kay, and Sharon. She is survived by seven siblings: Bernie, Eddie, Leon, Jerome, Elaine, Joanne, and Linda.

The Welcoming for Sister Lorena will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Sylvania.
