Sister Ursula Jay Obituary

Sister Ursula Jay (formerly Sister Aquinata) died at Rosary Care Center in Sylvania, Ohio on October 18, 2021. The daughter of Edward and Dorothy Jaglowicz entered the convent in Sylvania from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Parish in Detroit, Michigan in 1943. She made her first profession of religious vows in 1948 and her final vows in 1951. She earned a B.A. degree from Edgecliff College in Cincinnati, Ohio and an M.Ed. in Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati.

In her 73 years in religious life, Sister Ursula was involved in teaching junior high students in MN, OH, MI, and LA for 30 years including seven years as an Educational Consultant for the Toledo Diocese. After Chaplaincy training, she worked as a Chaplain for 17 years in hospitals in OH, IL and TN. She also served as a Nurse/Home Health Aide in CA and OH before returning to Sylvania where she volunteered at Rosary Care Center and was a receptionist at Franciscan Care Center in Toledo. As a teacher, Sister was known for her creative, artistic and organized classes. The Sisters found her very helpful when writing and lettering projects were needed. She sometimes came across as quite sophisticated and smart until you got to know her and then found her very caring and kind. Once when introducing a visitor to the hospital staff in Tennessee, the visitor was amazed that everyone she met, from housekeeper, to food service employee to the CEO, all sang Sister Ursula's praises. Sister Sally, as she was sometimes called, also had a beautiful singing voice and was known to end the day with "Alleluias" before she retired.

Her parents, Edward and Dorothy; and brother, John (a.k.a. Jackie); predeceased her. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Holloway; husband, Vic Holloway; and daughter, Vicki Holloway; nieces, Dawn Watson, Gayle DuRivage, Robin Satoski, Jill Romano; and many great nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her Sisters in Community, friends and her caregivers at Rosary Care Center.

There will be a Welcoming on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace Chapel in Sylvania. Visitation will continue until the Funeral Mass, also on Monday, October 25 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Because COVID is still active, the Sisters ask those in attendance to please safeguard each other through some degree of social distancing plus wearing masks, if you so choose.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis, Sylvania, Ohio.
