Stanford Odesky Obituary

Stanford Harold Odesky

Stanford Harold Odesky was born on July 4, 1937 to Irving and Marian Abelowitz. After a cardiac event and complications thereafter, Stan passed away peacefully, Wednesday afternoon, December 19, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born and raised in Toledo, Ohio, Stan graduated from Scott High School in 1955 and went on to study business administration, advertising, and marketing earning an MBA at the University of Toledo. After spending twenty-five years with NFO Research, Stan started SHOA (Stanford H. Odesky & Associates) in 1986, providing a full range of marketing research services for businesses, non-profits, candidates and local governments.

Stan loved the Toledo community and did his part to make a difference. A seasoned political pollster, he spent most election nights predicting the results of the area's elections on local television. Stan volunteered every year for the Marathon Classic (formerly the Jamie Farr Classic) since its inception. He served as president of the Toledo Opera Association, University of Toledo Alumni Foundation, Toledo Board of Jewish Education, and Toledo Jewish Community Center. Stan also chaired the Scott High School centennial planning committee and was inducted into Scott High School's Hall of Fame in 2016. In 2012, he and his loving wife Sheila were honored by the Ohio Department of Aging at Joined Hearts in Giving for long-time volunteer service in the community.

For over six decades, Stan was a dedicated Brother, mentor, and leader in the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity. He joined AEPi in 1955 at the University of Toledo and served as Supreme Master of the international fraternity from 1989 to 1991. In 2000, he was elected to receive the fraternity's highest honor, The Order of the Lion.

Stan was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He relished time with family and friends and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren their genealogy. They will remember him for his love of hot sauce, his Omaha steak packages, and his love of all things Toledo. Always excited to spread his knowledge of the world, Stan touched so many lives during his time on earth.

Stan is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sheila (Birnkrant) Odesky and their two children Bonnie Berland and Cheryl (Mitch) Moser. He is also survived by brother Marvin Odesky; sister-in-law Carol Odesky; as well as grandchildren Rebecca Berland, Seth Berland, Sam Moser, Jeremy Moser, and Daniel Moser.

Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. on Sunday, December 23 at Congregation B'nai Israel with internment at Beth Shalom Cemetery following services.
