With much sorrow and a lot of love, we announce our mother and Susu, Susan-Jane Berson, nee Perlman, 84, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2025 in Sylvania, Ohio. 

Susan-Jane was born in Brooklyn, NY to I. William and Bernice Elaine Payne Perlman on September 10, 1940. She attended the Berkley Carol School and though she received early acceptance to the Rhode Island School of Design, she ultimately attended the Western College for Women in Oxford, OH for a short time before returning to “the City.”

Like many others, Susan participated in the great migration to Miami in the 70’s with her parents and soon after began a family of her own with her life’s greatest joys, her twins.

There are many highlights to share in Susan's life as she often liked to share with others. Whether it was her European teen tour, working for Joe Wolfe, partying with her “University of Miami Hurricanes sons,” Mrs. McGories, her backgammon games, her ruggelach, and most recently spending time with her grandbabies, Mom/SuSu had a very full life. As her dear Sinatra sang, “(She) did it my way.”

Susan is survived by her children, Kelly Hill and Allison (Daniel) Berns; her grandchildren, Noah Hill, Rafi and Estie Berns, her beloved Bobo, and her dear friends. 

A celebration of her life and shiva will be held at the home of Bob and Kathee Berns on Thursday, July 31.  The shiva service, led by Rabbi Delson will begin at 5:30PM. The family will receive guests until 8:30PM on Thursday, and again on Friday, August 1st from 1-4PM. 

May our Mom/SuSu’s memory be for a blessing.

The family very gratefully acknowledges the love and support provided by Susan-Jane’s cadre of special people: Liz Witter, the JFS volunteers, the Shemtov and Matusof families, the Berns Family, Amy Pence, her caring physicians and nurses, the staff at Kingston Healthcare, Hospice of Northwest Ohio, and Congregation Shomer Emunim. 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Jewish Family Services of Greater Toledo and Chabad of Toledo.
