Wanda J. (Wieczorek) Niemiec passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was 94 years old. She was the sixth child born to Joseph and Hattie (Zalewska) Wieczorek on July 9, 1927. Wanda attended Parkland School on Lagrange Street in the Polish neighborhood of Toledo where she met her husband, John Niemiec. They were married in 1949 and had five children together. John preceded Wanda in death in 1976. Wanda was a longtime member of St. Hedwig Church where she was active in the PTA, Ladies Catholic Benevolent Association (LCBA), and served as a volunteer with the Sisters of St. Francis.
In addition to raising her family, Wanda enjoyed playing card games, dancing, traveling, and listening to Polka music. She loved the movie, Gone with the Wind, and rarely missed a television episode of Days of Our Lives. She was known for her homemade potato salad, Polish pastry, and her impeccable housekeeping. She was a current member of Christ the King Catholic Church. A devoted mother and grandmother, Wanda relished in celebrating her grandchildren's accomplishments. She will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, John, Wanda was preceded in death by her sisters, Lottie Zwierzychowski, Martha Polek, Irene Todorowski and Eleanor Szymanski; brothers, Anthony, Henry, Donald and Eugene Wieczorek; and son-in-law, William Patek. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Diane Patek, Michael, Thomas (Jill), Roseann Rickard, and Mark (Cheryl) Niemiec; sister, Joann Cieslewski; grandchildren, Jennifer Conrad, Janelle Rhodes, Paul Patek, Josh Rickard, Adam Rickard, Jessica Niemiec, Thomas Niemiec, Kyle Niemiec, Katie Niemiec, Gabrielle Niemiec; and seven great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
On Monday, January 3, 2022, friends and family will be received at Christ the King Catholic Church beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. A special thank you to the staff of Rosary Care Center and Ebeid Hospice, both of Sylvania, for the kindhearted and compassionate service.
