Zale Kohler was born in Toledo Ohio on September 23, 1934, to Jeanette (Pinkus) and Samuel Kohler, and passed away September 5, 2024. He attended Fulton Elementary School and was a graduate of Scott High School and the University of Toledo, with a business degree in Accounting. He was in the ROTC during college and spent two more years in the Army Reserve. After beginning his career at the accounting firm I.R. Miller, he was hired by a client, the Feldstein family, to take over the books at Woodville Appliances. He spent the next 63 years at Woodville Appliances, first an accountant and later as the business owner and founder of Woodville Rental Co., expanding to three stores in the Toledo area. He sold the business to his son, Mark Kohler, in 2006 and continued to work there for 17 more years, until his retirement in 2020 at the age of 85.
He gave his time generously to his community, serving for many years as the treasurer at B'nai Israel and the president of the homeowners' association at the Northwoods. He loved to play tennis and bridge and listen to classical music. Zale was known to his family, friends and all who knew him as a dependable and honest man, and a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He was married to the love of his life, Shirley (Goldman), for 67 years and is survived by Shirley; children, Sheila Quint (David), Mark Kohler (Margaret), Dr. Douglas Kohler, (Jenny Mills); grandchildren, Jacob, Aaron and Caroline Quint, Lauren and Claire Kohler, Michael and Elizabeth Kohler; and sister Margie Kohler. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Karen (Howard) Rosenbaum.
