Arthur M. Friedman of Sylvania, OH. formerly of Rochester, N.Y passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Born in Rochester, New York on April 22, 1926 to Louis and Mildred (Weigler). Arthur was a 1944 graduate of Monroe High School. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Marcia Guttenberg in Rochester, N.Y.
Serving as a sergeant in the U.S. Army in World War II from 1944 - 1946, receiving a honorable discharge. Following his discharge, Arthur began his career as a sales representative for soft goods in the Rochester area. Eventually his career relocated him and his family moved to Detroit, MI. for a short period before settling down in the Toledo area. Creating a name for himself, he ventured out on his own and owned his own business, Arthur M. Friedman Associates.
Arthur was active in the Toledo Jewish community, serving as a board member for Congregation B'Nai Israel. Arthur was involved in creating and implementing various anti-prejudice programs such as, "Erase the Hate" in order to unify the community and bring together the numerous religions and churches in the area. Arthur also was involved in many charities, including the Charity Newsies, a nonprofit organization old newsboys assisting children with clothing and school supplies.
Preceded in death by his parents, son Richard Friedman, his sisters Lillian (Abraham) Eramus, Ivy (Manny) Phillips and Adele Striker.
Surviving is his wife of 67 years, Marcia; son Mark; grandchildren, Shawn Friedman, Adam (Jessica) Friedman and Lindsay (Blaine) Kuneman. Numerous nieces and nephews will also fondly remember him.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Robert H. Wick/Wisniewski Funeral Home 2426 North Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH. 43615. Interment Beth Shalom Cemetery. The family will receive guests beginning in the afternoon on Wednesday through Tuesday January 16, 2018 at the home of Marcia Friedman at West Park Place 3501 Executive Pkwy. Toledo, OH. 43606.
