Duane K. Brown, age 84, passed away after a short illness on September  11, 2016. He was born in Toledo, Ohio to Manzel and Ruth Brown.  He was a 1950 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and on April 11, 1953, he married his high school sweetheart, Ilo Gagle. He served as a cook in the Navy from 1951–1955.  From 1957–1961, he attended night classes at the University of Toledo, Business Administration, Marketing and Retailing. Duane spent the majority of his life working in the family business of Manzel Flowers, Inc. At one point he left and worked for the Boy Scouts of America. Another time he tried his hand in market research working for National Family Opinion. He enjoyed both, but eventually, he kept the family business tradition and became owner and manager of Manzel Flowers. He was a man of great faith. He was a member of FTD, the American Legion, and president of the West Toledo Exchange Club. He loved to cook, golf, and volunteer his time in numerous ways. He claimed he once swam with Tarzan (Johnny Weissmuller). He spent five years living in Tennessee and thoroughly loved it.      He is survived by his loving family, wife of 63 years, Ilo Brown; daughter, Robin (Al) VanHorn; son, Kevin (Mary) Brown; grandchildren, Sandy (Justin) Binder, Kurran Brown, Zak Brown, and Ryan Brown; great-grandchildren, Kelsey Rowley, Katie Blazey, Ethan Branum, and Abigail Binder. Family and friends may visit Grace United Methodist Church, 601 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio, on Thursday, September 15, 2016 from 6-7 p.m. with a Memorial Service to begin at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served in the church’s Fellowship Hall after the service.
